Gate of Field
To enter the Historical Neighbourhood it is better to go through the lifting bridge of the Gate of Field, also called Gate of the Ciudadela.  It is a monumental Portuguese Fortification inaugurated in 1745 by the at that time governor Vascocellos, who encouraged the city building.  We can clearly appreciate the moat that crosses the wooden bridge and the huge stone walls of 90 cm of thickness.
