In 1884, Treinta y Tres state was created between the states of Cerro Largo and Minas (nowadays, Lavalleja). The capitalis the village of the same name.
The borders are at north on Parao stream until reaching Rincón de Ramirez and Tacuarí river until reaching Merín Lagoon.
To the east, there is the Tacuarí river until the bar of Cebollatí and following its course to Corrales stream.
To the south, Corrales stream until where Cebollatí is born; the bar of the Averías stream and from there, following the Olimar Chico Stream, until reaching the place where Cuchilla Grande stream is born.
To the west, the Chuchilla Grande in all its extennsion from where Parao stream is born.
The state capital is the Treinta y Tres city: in the junction of Olimar river and Yerbal stream, in the south of the state the calm Treinta Y Tres is located with 26,394 inhabitants accordin to a sensus done in 1996.
It is a typical locality of the interior of Uruguay, of low buildings, pavements with leafy trees and reunited around a Square called 19 de Abril, where the monumet to the 33 Orientals is erected, work done in back, white and pink marble by municipal workers.
The city concentrates official annexes and the building of the City Council.
In Treinta y Tres many tradictional parties are carried out, the more known are: "Fiesta del Olimar", Folk festival "Salto de Agua", etc.
