San José covers an important place in the history of uruguay, its territory was stage for important facts that contributed in the independence of the Republic, and of course it had equal participation throught the protagonism of our country in the emancipation of Sout America, from its colonization until now.
In the path started in the Agraciada Beach by the group of Orientals which headed for Montevideo for the liberation of foreign domains, took place in this lot in the year 1811, on April 21st The Battle of Paso del Rey and the 25th of the same month and year the Battle of San José.
On October 23rd started in what nowadays is the capital of San José the Exodus of the Eastern Town. It was an historical fact i which Oriental families joined their leader, founding father José Artigas, leaving behind belongings and bearing hard poverty to the exile. On November 24th, 1818, the first General Constituent Assembly of the City was formed to start the basis of the Republic's Contitution.
