Maldonado (state)

The state of Maldonado is located on the river and sea coast of River Plate and Atlantic Ocean, between 34º and 35º latitud south. It has a surface of 4,793 square kilometres in the southeast of the East Republic of Uruguay, and a longitud of 100 kilometres of coast along the River Plate and the Atlantic Ocean. 

It has a group of ondulations, mountains, mountain ranges and hills that go trough North to South, separated by rivers and streams. You can appreceate the most important rise in the grounds of the country; for example the Cerro Catedral, with 513 metres height and Cerro de las Ánimas with 501 metres height.  

Three conditions distinguishes it from the rest of the states, it has sea, muontain range and woods.
The most important centres are: Maldonado (capital of the state), Punta del Este, Piriápolis, San Carlos, Pan de Azúcar and Aiguá, without taking into account other smaller towns.

The tourims, which has turned into the main economic activity, not neglecting other vital activities, like livestock, agriculture, fishing and also exploiting also marble quarries, granite quarries and sandstone.
