Florida (state)

Florida State, which has a surface of 10,457 square kilometres and a population of 68,636 inhabitants, is located in the center-south region of Eastern Republic of Uruguay, in a strategic place inside the metropolitan area, 95 km from the Port of Montevideo with communications that join it with the rest of the country and Latin America.

The territory stands out because of its natural prairies with a sof, ondulated relief and very irrigated by the river networks with uncountable tributaries. The main economic activity is the agricultural production: meat, wool, milk and its transformations, what has allowed the development of agro-business and of corresponding services.

Historic places are in the very spots where the protagonists themselves wrote the most beautiful pages of our emancipation.

Florida State was created on July 10th, 1856, altough its population dates from 1760 (Small Stronghold of thePainted).
Its Capital was founded on April 24th, 1809, being declared City on April 19th, 1894.

It is drained by many rivers and streams, what offers the visitor nice places of easy access for camping and excellent fishing.
