Canelones is located in the Southeast of the East Republic of Uruguay and it has more than 4,500 square metres.
It stands out for being, after Montevideo, the most populated state in the country and one of the most stategic one from the geopolitical point of view. It is situated in the south of the country, it is the communication bridge between the capital the the states, also it is the reception of foreign visitors, since it has the International Airport Carrasco. It boarders on Montevideo, San José, Florida, Lavalleja and Maldonado.
Its terrotory, lightly ondulated and full of plains, has a wealthy flow of streams that are part of the Santa Lucía basin, spring of wealthy fresh water for all the south of the country, which flow into the coasts of the River Plate. There are also some big lakes, dikes or reservoirs and digged wells that store water during the winter for possible risks in summer.
