The state of Artigas is located in the North of Uruguay and boarders on Argentina and Brazil
. The capital city of Artigas carries this name as a tribute to the National Hero.
It is the furthest city from Montevideo, the country capital, 600 kilometres far.
It it situated on the Cuareim River and was founded on September 12th, 1852 by Don Carlos Catalá.
The state has a population of around 75.066 inhabitants and a surface of 11.928 square kilometres.
The production is based mainly on cattle farming. The country's major exports are meat and wool products.
It also has fertile soil, rich in semi pricious stones and offers interesting landscapes.
