Flores States is the last and youngest state of the 19 one in the Republic. In the dawn of the XIX Century, the area that the present Flores State comprises was, almost completely, property of the successors of Francisco de Alzaybar and Miguel Ignacio De la Cuadra, Captain of the militia of Fuerte Square.
The begining of the foundational process of the city of Trinidad goes back to the year 1801, date when Francisco Fondar requests Viceroy Don Joaquín del Pino, in name of sixty neighbours and his, authorization to build a chapel in the peak of the Porongos prominence in whose outlines the slaughters of the so called "Leather Age" used to camp.
Its culmination takes place on April 14th, 1804, date when Doña Inés Durán, widow of Don Miguel Ignacio de la Cuadra, registers the basic lands of the city in favour of Fray Manuel Ubeda.
Venancio Flores is born on May 18th, 1808, in Trinidad. The State is named after him.
Flores State was created by law number 1854 of December 30th, 1885, result of an evidently political desicion by the then President of the Republic, Brigadier Commander Máximo Santos, who later would be elected Senator of the State. In that position he obtained then the reelection as President of the Republic.
By Law number 14068 of September 30th, 1977, The boarders of the state were modified for the last time, incorporating all the Village Ismael Cortinas to the state.
Situated in the centre of the Republic, it has as general boarders: to the north, Río Negro state; to the East, DUrazno and Florida states; to the South, San José state; and to the West, Colonia and Soriano state.
